Grading

For each FSMQ teachers assess coursework portfolios under three themes:

• Structuring and presenting work
• Using appropriate mathematics and working accurately
• Interpreting mathematics

Each theme is given a mark, from 0 to 17, and these marks are added together to give a total mark for the Coursework Portfolio.

A moderator appointed by an Awarding Body reviews the portfolio marks awarded by the school or college to check that they are in line with the common standard.

Students must pass both components (portfolio and examination) to achieve an overall pass.

Portfolio and examination marks contribute equally to give the final grade.
The final pass grades are A, B, C, D, E.
