Advanced Level: FSMQ Pilots
Advanced Level FSMQs and Use of Mathematics
Six advanced level FSMQs as well as an AS and A level in Use of Mathematics are currently in pilot. All the Advanced FSMQs (both current and pilot) are accredited up to 2013. AS and A-level Use of Maths (pilot and non-pilot) are accredited up to 2013.
AS level: Use of Mathematics
The revised AS Use of Mathematics consists of the compulsory unit Algebra plus any two of the following applications FSMQs: Data Analysis, Hypothesis Testing, Dynamics, Mathematical Principles for Personal Finance, Decision Mathematics.
All of the above will be assessed by a 1 hour written paper with pre-release data sheet (no portfolio).
A level: Use of Mathematics
The new A level: Use of Mathematics consists of an AS level (as described above) plus 3 compulsory A2 units: Calculus, Mathematical Applications and Mathematical Comprehension.
Calculus will be assessed by a 1 hour written paper with pre-release data sheet (no portfolio). For Mathematical Applications candidates must produce a portfolio containing two tasks which will be marked by the centre and moderated by AQA. Mathematical Comprehension will be assessed by a 1½ hour written paper in two sections with pre-release data sheet (no portfolio).
