This book covers the optional unit Using and applying statistics.
The mathematical content of this book includes:
- types of data, random and stratified samples, questionnaires;
- statistical measures including averages, quartiles, percentiles, standard deviation;
- representation of data using diagrams including histograms, cumulative frequency graphs and other statistical charts and graphs used in the real world;
- interpretation of information from tables;
- correlation and regression;
- the normal distribution used to model data;
- critical analysis of statistics produced by other people
- extension opportunities including box and whisker plots, Spearman’s rank correlation coefficient, non-linear regression models, uniform, binomial and Poisson distributions, significance tests (z, t, chi-squared, Mann-Whitney, Wilcoxin).
