Foundation Qualifications for the Future

The new Foundation FSMQs that are currently in pilot are very similar to their predecessors. The assessment balance remains as 50% examination and 50% portfolio. The minor changes to the content are listed below:

  • exchange rates and timetables have been added to Money Management
  • the terms "chord", "radius" and "congruent" are included in Using Spatial Techniques, but the use of systems of measurement other than metric and imperial has been removed
  • timetables have been added to Using Data.

Under QCA's new scheme, the portfolio and exam are each called a separate "unit" (rather than components of a unit), but the FSMQ will still consist of a combination of these (as it is now).

Pilots of the ‘new’ Foundation FSMQs started in September 2007 and will continue in 2008/9.

If you are interested in taking part please contact AQA.

Note that all the earlier Foundation FSMQs will be available in their present form until 2011.
