GCSE: Use of Mathematics Results
The results for the first year of the new GCSE: Use of Mathematics are now available from the AQA website.
The cumulative percentages for each grade are given below:
| A* | A | B | C | D | E | F | G |
Use of Mathematics | 0.9 | 5.3 | 19.9 | 42.0 | 61.8 | 74.7 | 82.5 | 90.4 |
In comparison, the cumulative percentage for grade C for all GCSE Mathematics qualifications (available from the JCQ website) was 56.3%.
All candidates entered for the pilot GCSE: Use of Mathematics were over 16 years old and many had failed to achieve a grade C or above in previous GCSE attempts. Bearing this in mind, the result that 42% were able to achieve grade C or above is pleasing. Success rates for GCSE retake classes have generally been much lower in the past.
Please send any comments you would like to make to June Haighton. We would be particularly pleased to hear from anyone who took part in this pilot.
